The Thunderbolt series is a discontinued Civil Defense Siren produced by Federal Signal. It is one of the most widely used sirens in the world becoming the choice siren by civil defense authorities during the Cold War. It was produced between 1952-1990. The series had three models. 1000, 1000T, 1003. The 1000 used a 5 port single tone stator. However the 100T and 1003 used 4/5 and 5/6 dual tone stators. The 1003 also had a bowtie system at the throat of the horn to produce a high-Low signal used by volunteer fire departments.
It is also known to use a series of Roots type superchargers or "blowers" as they are more commonly known as. The blowers would send air up into the chopper to give it more sound output and to keep it at the same db rating during the attack cycle.
